Aloe Vera. Nature's Original Soother
Oxygen Is Nature's Way To Clean™

Aloe barbadensis

The ancient Egyptians called aloe vera the plant of immortality. They buried it with the pharaohs. Cleopatra and Nefertiti both used it daily as part of their beauty routines. Alexander the Great reportedly sent soldiers to secure a supply of it before battle. For a succulent that grows quietly in warm, dry climates and asks almost nothing of its environment, aloe vera has had an extraordinarily storied life.

What makes it so enduring isn't mythology. It's the gel inside the leaf, which is 99% water and yet somehow packed with over 75 bioactive compounds, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and enzymes. It has been doing useful things for living tissue for a very long time.

At Essential Oxygen, we only use the inner fillet of the aloe leaf plant; the clear, tender layer found just beneath the outer rind of the leaf, never the whole leaf. That distinction matters more than it sounds.

Why the inner fillet matters

Because our aloe source is not non-decolorized whole leaf aloe extract, it is not subject to Proposition 65 labeling associated with whole leaf aloe extracts. The outer rind contains latex with aloin, a compound that is Prop 65 listed and one of the main reasons "aloe vera" as an ingredient can mean very different things from one product to the next.

Additionally, our aloe vera is USDA Certified Organic, made from that inner fillet, pressed into a pure organic aloe vera juice. It's a foundational ingredient in our BR Organic Mouthwash + Brushing Rinse and our Organic Low Abrasion Toothpaste. Here is what it is actually doing in your mouth.

What Aloe Vera Brings to Your Oral Care Routine

It hydrates the tissues that need it most. Your mouth is lined with delicate mucous membranes that dry out easily, especially overnight. The water-dense juice from aloe's inner fillet helps keep those tissues comfortable and moisturized. You will notice the difference immediately.
It supports your gum tissue specifically. Aloe vera acts directly on the gums. It is highly moisturizing and carries a meaningful anti-inflammatory effect, which is why dental products with aloe are often recommended for irritated or sensitive gums. If your gums ever feel tender after brushing, aloe is one of the reasons our formula feels gentler.
It soothes while it works. Aloe vera contains compounds called anthraquinones, which have a natural soothing effect on tissue. Because we use only the inner fillet, you get that soothing benefit without the latex compounds that whole leaf aloe can carry along with it. In oral care, that means the inside of your mouth feels genuinely cared for rather than just cleaned.
